Lizzy Borden rocks the Kobetasonik Festival
in Spain with last minute performance!
Lizzy Borden received a call last week to see if
they would be able to play a festival in Spain with Motley Crue,
Anthrax, Buckcherry and more! The band somehow made it happen!
Read Lizzy Borden’s post festival report below.
“Wednesday morning I got a call asking if we wanted
to play the Kobetasonik festival in Bilbao Spain On Saturday. I
wasn’t sure that we could do the show because my passport just
expired the day before. I spent the whole day at the federal
building on Thursday not knowing if they would renew my passport
or not, they just kept saying we will do our best. I finally got
it in my hands at 5:00 that night; we flew out for Spain the next
morning. We arrived at the festival at around 4:00 in the
afternoon on Saturday scheduled to play at 8:15 that night, only
one problem, the airline lost all of our luggage. We finally
tracked it down and they said they were flying it in and it would
all be there in time for the show. While we franticly waited for
our luggage we watched Buckcherry, Papa Roach, and Anthrax - all
really great shows!
With only minutes to spare our gear finally
arrived. A quick line check, smear on some stage make-up and
without any rehearsal at all hit the stage and belted out 65
minutes of American metal the Lizzy Borden way. We all had a great
time on stage, the audience in Bilbao Spain was screaming loud all
the way through and in the end turned out to be a great surprise
show for us and them. We met a lot of new friends backstage and
with all of the bands being in the same building it turned out to
be a really cool party. And at some point I think we dove into the
Jagermeister (maybe a little too much) and wandered out in the
audience to watch Motley cure. After a few minutes we got
recognized and had a BIG party in the crowd with a lot of our new
friends from Bilbao.
I want to thank everyone at the festival for
treating us so well…we can’t wait to come back, hopefully next
time more than 2 days notice. Live forever, Lizzy Borden”

Dario Lorina
The picture was shot backstage at the whisky a go-go right before their
performance at the MICHELLE MELDRUM & FAMILY benefit concert on May 26th.
Lizzy Borden has selected Dario Lorina as new guitarist
"Dario Lorina is a 19-year-old guitarist who has
been making waves in the music industry. At age 16, he was
recognized for his passion and what some may call exceptional
talent, and began touring with multi-platinum songwriter and
Warrant front man, Jani Lane. During that time Dario strongly
created a reputation and name for himself as a player and gained
the respect of many, thus giving him the opportunity to play with
various notable artists. Dario has been touring consistently
throughout the USA and Europe since 2006."
“Dario has played 3 shows with us so far, Germany, Holland and
Hollywood ca and was magnificent at them all. He fits in so perfectly with us; I
just know all the Lizzy Borden fans around the world are going to be blown away
when they see him play”

Lizzy Borden is confirmed for this years Rocklahoma festival
“We are all extremely excited to bring the
Lizzy Borden show to ROCKLAHOMA this year. After playing “bang your head” in Germany and the “Sweden rocks”
festival last year to amazing reviews, as well as Co/headlining the
“Keep it true” festival this year, it will be an honor to finally
bring the blood to an American festival. I have a few surprises up my
sleeves and we plan on playing some songs we have never played on
stage before. We have heard so much about
this festival
from some of our friends the last couple of years and we can’t wait to
bring our brand of American metal to the ROCKLAHOMA Stage.”
Lizzy Borden
In a career spanning 26 years, Lizzy Borden was created in
1983 in Hollywood California. Spitting venom, stage blood and dripping
grease paint while breathing life into bizarre characters bred
precisely for the stage. Theme oriented creations such as, Love you
to pieces (1985) Menace to society (1986) Visual Lies
(1987) Master of Disguise (1989) Best Of (1994) Deal
with the Devil (2000) and Appointment with death (2008)
forever cemented icon status to the master showman from the dawn of
heavy metal.
With the release of Lizzy Borden’s
latest disk “Appointment with death” Lizzy and the boys tore
through 2008 for that badge of honor all the while stealing the show
at some of Europe’s greatest summer festivals. The new Appointment
with death show received nothing less then rave reviews from Major
European press like “The best show of the entire festival”, “A 9
out of 10”, “Lizzy Borden was the hit of the festival”
The end of summer ‘08 brought the show
back home rampaging right through North America, destroying every
House of blues in its path all the way through the states.
Showing no signs of letting up Lizzy
Borden finished ‘08 performing in 9 countries on a winter tour of
Europe. While the show stormed its way through Europe, the first video
from “AWD” “Tomorrow never comes”, was nominated for
video of the year on MTV's “Headbangers Ball”, a great way to
finish the year.
2009 opened with
the creation of a new Lizzy Borden video "Under Your Skin".
“Skin” premiered on MTV2 Saturday March 29th ‘09 with a
controversial topic (about teenage girls cutting themselves); the
heavy duty subject was just the thing to start the year off on an
artistic note.
Most bands that
have been around as long as Lizzy Borden, the days of a new video
on MTV are long gone, however Lizzy Borden have 2 videos from the
latest CD, "Tomorrow Never Comes" and “Under Your Skin”
in rotation on MTV’s Headbangers ball, Music Choice as
well as radio stations around the country.
April ‘09 brought Lizzy back to
Germany to headline the first night of the “Keep it True”
festival. The show was second to none showcasing a 26 year career
catalog of songs as well as the twin guitar assault of Dario Lorina
and Chris Sanders, the 8 string bass menace Marten Andersson
and the frantic Mohawk drummer Joey Scott. The show centers
on Lizzy in his multitude of masks and props screaming bloody
murder as he’s pushed and pulled by (the Lizzy Girls Julia and steph)
the angel and devil on his shoulders. The show ends in blood, smoke
and fire just like a great rock show should.
The entourage was still hungry for more
and made a quick stop in Holland to perform the show one more time
before returning home.
The summer of ’09 is about to become the
next chapter in the Lizzy Borden saga with appearances at this
years “Rocklahoma” and “Rock gone wild” festivals. To be
continued...

It was a great honor to be a part of this
years Keep it true festival in
Germany. We
headlined the first night of the festival and set it off with a bang
in one of the longest shows we have ever played. We performed songs
from each Lizzy Borden record from Give ‘em the axe all
the way up through our latest Appointment with death. And For
the first time since 92’ we went back to our classic Lizzy Borden
format of two guitarists battling solos the entire why through the
show. Dario Lorina and Chris Sanders opened the show
with twin guitar harmonies and never looked back. Marten Andersson
brought his 8 string Bass and shattered some windows and loosened more
then a few fillings. Joey Scott ended the show with a smokin’
hot drum solo including a fire dance from our very own Stef. Even
though the show was larger then life and fun as hell, the Lizzy
Borden songs stole the show this night; this festival brings in
people from all over
Europe showing their support for metal music.
Watching everyone singing song by song as we weaved our way through
our catalog of music, from the past to the present and back again was
a truly an amazing thing to witness. All in all it was a great time
for us and the Keep it true fans. A video postcard of the event
will be on our MySpace page very soon. Live forever! Lizzy

Lizzy Borden Bass player unveils ESP 8 string bass
Bass Player Marten Andersson (Lizzy Borden, George
Lynch, Starwood), a long time player and endorsee of ESP, has
unveiled photo's of his new 8 string ESP Bass. "I have played
ESP's for most of my life," explained Marten Andersson. "Working
together with ESP, and based on my ideas and specs we have created a
prototype of my first custom bass. This is a true, unique 8 string
bass that has been refined in my head for a couple of years. I chose
top components and the highest standards and craftsmanship that ESP
offers. This bass stays in tune throughout a full headlining set and
it is one of the loudest, most powerful basses I have ever heard."
Only available factory direct
through ESP (at the moment) as a built to order. This bass was
designed on Andersson's original specifications and comes with
top of the line pickups and hardware, but can be outfitted with
either EMG or Seymour Duncan pickups, Schaller or Dunlop
Straplocks, and Black or Chrome hardware. Featuring a standard 8
string ESP B Series neck (with different headstock), 34" scale
with 24 frets. The model incorporates a metallic red sparkle
finish with star inlays as fret markers. Fretboard/inlay:
rosewood/stars and Gotoh Tuners.
The new signature bass can be seen in the Lizzy Borden video ''Under
Your Skin" which premiered on MTV's Headbangers Ball
last weekend. The track comes off Lizzy Borden's CD "Appointment
With Death" out world-wide on Metal Blade Records.
Commented LIZZY BORDEN vocalist/namesake:
"After our last video, 'Tomorrow Never Comes',
was nominated for video of the year on MTV's
'Headbangers Ball', we thought we had to
step up the visuals big time on our next one.
"For the 'Under Your Skin' video, we knew
we wanted a storyline that mirrored the lyrics to the song. I
wrote 'Skin' about the teenage phenomenon
that is happening to one out of every two hundred teenage (mostly
girls). That phenomenon is called cutting.
"The video for 'Under Your Skin' follows
the lives of three very different girls, a rich girl neglected by
her parents, a cheerleader with a 'nothing's-ever-good-enough'
mother and a poor girl with an alcoholic father. The girls all
have complete opposite backgrounds but share the same big secret —
they all cut themselves.
"In the video, Death (played by me) stalks
the girls just waiting for the one who, on this occasion, will cut
a little too deep.
"We recruited first-time director Ann Potenza
for the job; she understood this song completely and wrote a great
treatment that we all loved right away. She then recruited
director of photography, Gigi Malavasi, to
complete the team. Joey Scott (drummer of
LIZZY BORDEN) and Ann
scouted locations and hired our cast (the rich girl in the video
is my niece, Christina Farr).
"We wanted something that would showcase the song and the band,
but with this video we got a whole lot more.
"My goal has always been to entertain, but if we can bring
awareness to something like this, all the better.
"I was at a party recently talking to some girl and telling her
that our new video was about cutting. She showed me the scars on
her arm; that's how common this is.
"Hope you like the video, and if you are or know someone that cuts
themselves, check out the PSA at the end of the video; there is
information that may help."

My Brother and former guitarist Corey James
(Daum) passed away Saturday morning
My Brother and former guitarist Corey
James (Daum) passed away Saturday morning in Nashville Tennessee
from an auto accident.
Corey was a Lizzy Borden guitarist
from 1989 to 1995; he appeared in 2 Lizzy Borden video’s ‘We got
the power’ and ‘Love is a crime’ as well as on the Master of
Disguise tour;
We were looking for a second
guitarist to play along side Alex Nelson and We had a cattle
call of guitarist come down to audition. As soon as Corey walked
in the room I had high hopes for him. He was a tall, bone skinny
kid with long blonde hair and a giant Colgate smile. He started
playing and singing away with no fear and gave it all he had, I
liked him immediately and so did everyone else. After he was
done I told him that we would get back to him after we finished
the day, but in my mind I already knew that he was the guy. I
called him later that night and asked him if he wanted to see
the world and live in a tour bus for a couple of years, he was
ecstatic and I could tell even over the phone that that smile
would not leave his face while he slept that night…
Corey was an
innocent young kid who came to Hollywood to fulfill his dreams
of becoming a world famous rock guitarist. He found himself in
an apartment complex on Yucca Street in a seedy part of
Hollywood. The complex was filled with musicians from every
other state and it was kind of the first place you had to live
if you had the guts enough to come to Hollywood to pursue your
dreams, a far cry from the small town in Pennsylvania that he
came from. Inside of a week he knew everyone in this giant
apartment complex and introduced everyone to everyone else.
Corey was a guy that could get people together; everybody wanted
to be where he was. He made a seedy apartment in Hollywood the
place to be for all young soon to be rock stars and the girls
that wanted to be with them. I even risked parking my jag on
that famous street just to come to one of his ‘”we’re in this
thing together parties”, that’s the power of persuasion that
Corey had.
We toured quite a lot over the few
years we were playing together, we saw a good part of the world
and had the time of our lives night after night, to say he was a
big part of that would be the ultimate understatement. Corey was
the clue that held us all together and the one that we would send
in to be the ambassador to break the ice when we were with
strangers, and he always did.
Corey moved to Nashville after the touring ended and we all lost
touch for a few years. But when we were looking for a new
guitarist for our latest tour I tracked him down and tried to get
him to come back on the road with us, but he had a new family and
it just would have been too much to make it all workout. I said my
goodbyes to him and that we would see him when the tour came
through Nashville, That was the last time I spoke to him because
the tour never came through Nashville. but I I’m grateful that I
at least had those last phone conversations with Corey; he was the
nicest guy you could ever meet and the best friend you could want.
You were privileged if you had the chance to know him. He was a
great talent, an extraordinary guitarist and an amazing singer and
performer.
After losing Alex nelson in 04’ to an auto accident this is again
extremely hard to take and we are all crushed by this news as I
know his family and everyone that ever met him is right now. We
send out our sincere condolences to his family and we will never
forget Corey James, he will always be one of us forever… Lizzy
Borden
=======================================
Services for
Corey James (Daum) are currently scheduled for Friday (01-30-09).
Feel free to contact website below with any questions or
condolences to the family.
As we are plotting and planning Lizzy
Borden’s 2009 assault on the world, I can’t help but reflect about
what 2008 has brought to us and what we gave to it with our blood, sweat and
tears…okay so we didn’t cry, but there were times when we wanted to.
Our latest recording ‘Appointment
with Death’ came out on October 30th 2007 so I more or less consider
it a 2008 release. Our video for ‘Tomorrow Never Comes’ was
up for best video of the year on MTV 2 headbangers ball, and
radio is playing more new and older Lizzy Borden then they
have in a long while. By the looks of things I’d say we are back with a
vengeance!
The tour of the U.S. took us
from L.A. to New York and back again in every different direction you can
imagine. A simple tour… yet we logged more then 11,000 miles! If that didn’t
kill us nothing will.
Touring with a bunch of
monsters was really great! And I’m not talking about my band; I’m talking
about the Finnish band Lordi. Under those masks are a group
of really cool people and it was a pleasure being on the road with them and
their crew, I’m sure we will do it again at some point down the road, it was
too good of a match up not to. I think we gained some new younger fans and
shored up the respect from our older fans and that’s more then you can expect
from a one night stand.
The routing on the Europe
side was none to kind to us as well. With only a couple of days off from the
U.S. tour, we boarded a plane for Europe to conquer countries we have never
played before.
Exhaustion not withstanding
we brought the Lizzy Borden show ready to bleed all over
eight of our favorite new countries and bleed we did, real and fake. we are a
danger to ourselves onstage and we have the scars to prove it, but it’s the
only way we know how to do it, death before dishonor.
I made it though the U.S.
side of the tour and about half of the Europe side without getting sick, but
then! When one person gets sick, we all get sick; we’re like a traveling
Bubonic plague. But this is the job; there is no calling in sick, (even for
the singer) although I’m seriously thinking about that Michael Jackson mask on
the next tour.
The European fans are
different in only one way; they come to the show with such a positive attitude
(singing before the show) that they already know the show is going to be good
before we even start the intro tape. That’s very strange for a band like us
who always fights for every drop of reaction. I kept telling them to scream
but they couldn’t hear me because they already were.
All in all, the Lizzy
Borden machine traveled over 30,000 miles in planes, trains,
automobiles and boats as well as our own feet, (running through airports
trying to catch connecting flights).
We want to thank all the
Lizzy Borden Fans on both the U.S. side and the Europe side for coming out and
supporting us with your loud voices. Most bands that have been
around for a while do not get the kind of reception for new material that you
gave to us; we thank you for that as well.
Lizzy
Borden in 2009
The first thing on the agenda
is releasing our new video for the song “Under Your Skin”
(which incidentally was one of the best received songs in the set for this
tour). The video is a powerful piece about an unbelievable phenomenon that is
happening all over the world and almost no one is noticing, except for me of
course, more about that later.
After a very short holiday
break I am back to work writing new songs. I want the live feel from the tour
to seep into the new songs so I’m writing like crazy before it wears off.
It looks like we are heading
back to Germany in April for the "Keep it True Festival" and
possibly another mini tour of Europe, keep checking our site
www.lizzyborden.com for new tour
dates.
Also keep a look out on our
site for our re-launch of all of the old T-shirt designs from the past from
the love you to pieces/menace to society/visual lies/master of
disguiseera- coming soon.
They’ll be some major
announcements regarding shows in the U.S. and other really interesting
developments for Lizzy Borden upcoming in the days and weeks ahead.
2009 promises to be a very
active year for us with new music, new videos, and yes more shows all around
the world. We hope to see you all this year,
Live forever,
Band:
Lizzy Borden with Lordi and Stolen Babies Venue: House Of Blues Location: Las Vegas, NV Date: 11.12.08
HALLOWEEN IS FAR FROM OVER IN SIN
CITY! Courtesy of this triple bill...which could be have been
titled The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living And
Became Monstrous Metal Musicians. Officially, the rock & roll
trolls from Finland called LORDI were the headliners, but NO. You
don't include LIZZY BORDEN in your concert and then expect to
‘headline'. Still, let's do this by the numbers.
STONED BABIES were an offbeat opener, perfect for the occasion; a
female-fronted quintet which might be considered a Gothic
NIGHTWISH or an Industrial FLYLEAF or a tribute to HORRORPOPS.
With those elements, their ongoing success is practically
guaranteed. Okay, so their vampish singer has an accordion and the
guitarist is wearing a skirt...we all got over it. Their sound was
heavy enough to wake up the rather thin crowd (200 or so),
especially the song "Once I Wash My Hands Of You". They've got the
currently popular ‘sing one verse/shriek the next verse' down to
an exact science, so STONED BABIES will probably be your
daughter's next favorite band any day now.
When the curtains closed on STONED BABIES, the sound check for
LIZZY BORDEN began, which probably killed every dog in a
three-block radius. Even after seeing Manowar, Metallica,
Motorhead, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Raven & Triumph, my veteran
eardrums buzzed with warning: These guys were going to be LOUD!
And LOUD they were, as LIZZY BORDEN stormed onstage. Guitarists
Ira Black and Chris Sanders, Bassist Marten Andersen and Drummer
Joey Scott cranked out a tidal wave of sonic punishment with their
opener "Abnormal" from the new Appointment With Death CD.
‘Abnormal' aptly described the band as well, as they were all
dressed in spectral attire and deathly makeup. LIZZY appeared in
the guise of the Grim Reaper, complete with a black cloak and
faceless mask...but that was the first of many disguises. Their
next song, the cult hit "Notorious" had Lizzy in a Frankenstein
mask and menacing the crowd with a bat. The crowd chants "HAIL,
CAESAR!" Along with the band, but the crowd's response is
apparently never loud enough for Lizzy. He commands equally loud
screams for the next song "Live Forever". Therein lies the sole
problem: the band's so loud that neither they, nor the crowd, can
hear themselves scream. To their credit, the crowd tries, but
there's only so many of them.
Lizzy dons a gruesome devil mask for "Rod Of Iron", and switches
out the bat for a high-powered flashlight that sweeps among the
audience to illuminate the most motivated headbangers. A cool
effect, one that most other bands should use...but they don't, and
this is what elevates Lizzy Borden over other metal bands: special
effects. Lizzy Borden is often criticized of jumping on the
‘shock-rock' bandwagon like KISS, Alice Cooper and WASP...but the
accusation in itself shines an unflattering light on the t-shirt
and jeans bands: why don't YOU wear costumes, or masks, or props,
or shine a light on your crowd, or do something SPECIAL? Lizzy
Borden does, and they're charging the same price for a ticket as
you do. In fact, he's already got his next mask ready on the back
of his head.
It'd be a different story if Borden's theatrics were be-all,
end-all, but this is a band with more chops than a butcher
shop...These guys are virtuosos. After "Rod Of Iron", Marten
Andersson plays a scorching bass solo which puts him in up in the
leagues of Joey DeMaio or Billy Sheehan. Although the bass almost
overpowers the guitars in many songs, Ira Black shreds out a
magnificent solo of his own after "There Will Be Blood Tonight".
There certainly will be; Lizzy has blood pouring out of his mouth
as he's licking the blade of an axe! It doesn't seem to hurt his
voice any...and Lizzy's got one of the most unique voices in
metal; a sustained wail that soars over all the instruments like a
bird of prey.
Lizzy unmasks and comes out wearing a flag for "American Metal",
another crowd favorite. He begins "Me Against The World" by
singing from inside a rigged television set, stretching his face
against the 'screen' like Videodrome, then bursting out of it.
With every effect caught on tape by the House of Blues
videographer, this show would make an awesome DVD, even if it is
only a 45-minute set. Just to show the band's not all about terror
and death, they close the show with the uplifting rocker "We Got
The Power"...and they bloody well do!
The band heads out to the merchandising area for a meet & greet
with their fans, and then LORDI takes the stage. This Finnish
quintet has taken GWAR's playbook and ran with it; every performer
is monstrously masked and armored...Mr. Lordi, the lead singer,
has severed heads topping his boots! While visually impressive and
decently loud, LORDI aren't as metal as they are more generically
hard rock. Songs like "Who's Your Daddy?" and "Man Skin Boots" are
even more entertaining when Ogres are singing them. He then
announces "Las Vegas! We have a WINNER! Kita won twenty-five bucks
at a casino!" Their spike-covered drummer takes a gracious bow.
The band gives props to various horror movies with the song "The
Doctor Is In", and the singer menaces the crowd with a giant
chainsaw that spews fake blood. While they stomp into the song
"Let's Call It A Night", I take them at their word and split.
LORDI are good, but almost any band-or entertainer of any
sort-pales in comparison to LIZZY BORDEN.

SOLD OUT!
No one can say that LIZZY BORDEN
is lazy when it comes to put on a good show. There were reaper-cloaks,
masks, various weapons and a hell lot of energy. If a theatrical show
is not your cup of tea there’s also a great Metal Band behind it all,
so, if that’s the case just look past the show and outfits and listen
to the music. But I just don’t get how many great bands that’s been
out there over the years (and still are) that never gotten any
recognition at all. LIZZY BORDEN is absolutely one of them that
deserves more than they’ve got during the years. Both "Menace To
Society" and "Deal With The Devil" are great albums and the
latest one "Appointment With Death" is absolutely really classy
metal too!
LIZZY BORDEN
started off in a furious speed and never ever slowed down, there were
so many things to watch on stage all the time so it really took effort
to pay attention to both that and the music. Lizzy was changing
outfits and toys for every song and I suppose/hope that the rest of
the band members have really good health insurances. Because the axe
looked so real and the way Lizzy was swinging it, just inches
away from his musicians... At least I would have been nervous being up
on that stage. Bass player Marten Andersson showed off with a
bass-solo containing the famous melody from Pippi Longstockings
and reminded everyone of his Swedish roots. He and guitar
player Chris Sanders are almost spitting images of each other
so it’s good they have different instruments, else it would have been
really hard to tell them apart.
After a little break this sexy girl
took on the stage, danced away stripper stylish. That’s nothing you
get away with if LIZZY BORDEN is around, after a small attack
and some showing of adult oriented body parts the blood started
dripping from her neck. "There Will Be Blood Tonight" and the
crowd absolutely loved it. "You want blood too?"Lizzy
jumped off the stage and started smearing blood on the front lines. A
party-trick that worked excellent! Lead Guitarist Ira Black
ended the set with a mean guitar solo, throwing the guitar across the
stage and attacking it like a predator and squeezed the last notes out
of it. (No worries, I know that guitar has survived this kind of
treatment before). Afterwards, with all the bloodstains made people
look like they had been going face down on some running track though
since the blood had more that brick-red color rather than blood-red.
Not that it mattered, the effect it had on the show was perfect but it
looked a little ridiculous afterwards. Everything I’ve seen this day
has been great and this party-rock gave me new energy and not even the
burning sun could drag me away from stage.
Lizzy Borden - Sweden
Rock review 9p (of 10)
The
people who don’t see the cool in Make up, Axe blades with fake
blood and a singer that goes through Halloween masks like
festival beers, will not like Lizzy Borden. If you like all
this, combined with awesome ‘Wasp’ meets ‘Queensryche’ metal and
the same (emanate) singer that is a lion tamer with the audience
- yes, you might just say, like me, agree that Lizzy Borden is
the highlight of the entire SRF. Certain die hard fans might
have missed certain classics, but the new “Appointment with
Death” - songs lifts to high heavens live, and I got to hear “Me
Against the World” do not complain.

Bang your head"
review in Metal Hammer
Shock-rocker Lizzy Borden knows how
to entertain the audience: The five americans put on party-hits
like 'Tomorrow Never Comes', 'There Will Be Blood Tonight', 'Me
Against The World' or 'We Got The Power' and staged a
spectacular show that somehow reminds of Kiss. Masquerade in
great profusion, Dancers (that pretend to give lead singer Lizzy
a blow-job, getting their top ripped off and being bloody
massacred) and a fake blood orgy in the first row - party! No
wonder one disapproved with the Band being on stage early
afternoon.

Lizzy Borden: ‘Bang your head’ video postcard available
Lizzy Borden has
posted a video postcard of the bands performance at this year’s
'Bang Your
Head' festival in
Germany. The 2:33 sec trailer features clips of the band on stage in front of 15
thousand performing two shows in one day, making friends in the signing tent, as
well as candid moments backstage.
LIZZY BORDEN to
headline Germany’s KEEP IT TRUE Festival in April 2009
LIZZY BORDEN have been confirmed as the
first-day headliner of the two-day Keep It True XII festival, set to
take place April 24-25, 2009 at Tauberfrankenhalle in
Lauda-Königshofen, Germany.
Lizzy Borden performs two shows in one day at
the bang your head festival
In the history of the bang your head festival no band has ever
played two shows in one day until now. Lizzy Borden performed this past Saturday (June 28) in Balingen,
Germany with a blood soaked theatrical production on a perfect sunny
day in front of 15 thousand.
As the band left the stage drained and
bloodstained, they we’re greeted by BYH promoter Horst
who congratulated them on the amazing response. He also told them that
one of the bands had cancelled their show for later that day to which
Lizzy replied “will take the slot!” horst called him a “madman” and
said “you got it!”
Commented the band's frontman/namesake: We
had two hours to put a new set together. We rehearsed some songs in
our trailer that we heard the crowd yelling out at the last show, even
though we had never played them before with this lineup. The 2nd show
was fast and loose and fun as hell and the crowd was even louder then
the 1st show and sang with me all the way through. It was the tenth
BYH festival anniversary for Lizzy Borden and one we will
never forget.

Borden told BW&BK recently that he calls the album "traditional Lizzy. As
always, there is a theme and this one is death. The artwork (courtesy of Ralis
Khan) on the front sleeve depicts me as an Angel of Death character. The term
'death' refers to the end of something, so that allowed us to work with a broad
brush."
Musically the album seems heavier, especially in the guitar area. "Our
guitarist, Ira Black has brought that heavier element to the band, and in
addition, the whole band pitched in on the music of AWD, bringing many different
ideas. Additionally, we had a number of guests on this album from a wide variety
of metal backgrounds, so their ideas come from all over the place."
Guests include George Lynch (ex-DOKKEN/LYNCH MOB), Dave Meniketti (Y&T), Corey
Beaulieu (TRIVIUM), Jonas Hansson (SILVER MOUNTAIN), Erik Rutan (HATE
ETERNAL/ex-MORBID ANGEL) and Michael T. Ross (ex-ANGEL/HARDLINE/NELSON).

back catalog, and since this is our first appearance at the Sweden
Rock Festival we want to play one or two songs off of each record.
We are also playing quite a few choice cuts from our latest

The Darker side
In a career
spanning almost 25 years, Lizzy Borden was
created in 1983 in Hollywood California. Spitting
venom, stage blood and dripping grease paint while
breathing life into bizarre characters bred
precisely for the stage. Theme oriented creations
such as, Love you to pieces (1985)
Menace to society (1986)
Visual Lies (1987)
Master of Disguise (1989)
Best Of (1994)
and Deal with the Devil (2000)
forever cemented icon status to the master showman
from the dawn of heavy metal.
Now, Years in the
making, Lizzy Borden pulls back the cloak to
unveil his latest and most frightening creation,
Appointment with Death (2007)
a
fatalistic journeytothe final
destinationdamned by the wings of death.
This is Lizzy
Borden’s First new studio recording since
Deal with the Devil
(2000)
Appointment with
Death
was produced by L. Borden and J. Scott
It was recorded at
the
Zanzibar
studios in N. Hollywood CA.
And was mixed by Erik
Rutan (Hate Eternal/ex-Morbid Angel)
at Mana sound in Florida
(….. about the
concept and the characters on AWD)
Like all past
Lizzy Borden recordings, Appointment with
Death is a conceptual piece; this concept is
centered around the theme of, as the title
implies, Death.
“Oddly
enough, writing eleven songs about death was no
easy task for me; lyrically being graphic or
grotesque would have been too easy, and being
overly morbid would bring nothing new to the
concept. I wrote this just like I have all of the
other LB recordings, as a play or a movie. There
is a beginning, middle and an end with the lead
character taking us on a journey. Death is all
around us, lurking, waiting to pounce, striking
fear and antagonizing the living in many different
ways, I tried to explore some of those ways in the
most poetic way that I know how”
commented Lizzy.
The music on AWD
was composed by Lizzy, Ira Black, Marten
Andersson and Joey Scott
AWD
is epic, Heavy, dark and melodic, everything a
traditional Lizzy Borden recording should be and
more. With new guitarist Ira Black along
with Marten Andersson on Bass and
co/founder Joey Scott on the drums, the
Lizzy Borden sound has evolved into a
multi-dimensional ever-lasting-gobstopper working just as
well in an ipod as it has always done on stage.
(The Star
studded cast of characters that performed on AWD)
“These musicians
are more then just special guests, they all, each
in their own original way helped to create this
work of fiction and bring Appointment with
Death to life.” Lizzy

(….About the
cover)
For the Cover,
Lizzy Borden worked with special effects
wizard and make-up artist Ralis Kahn. Ralis
designed the set and the look of the band based on
the theme for Appointment with Death. The cover depicts
Lizzy as the angel ofDeath in the
action of collecting 3 souls who have ended their
lives in 3 very different ways by their own hands.
View the cover at this location
www.Lizzyborden.comFamed ‘Metal’ photographer Alex Solca
took well over a 1,000 shots in a two-day
marathon, involving extras as well as the band (Lizzy,
Joey Scott, Marten Andersson and Ira Black).
At the end of the two-day shoot the set was
literally set a blaze! With flames shooting 30
feet into the air!
Lizzy explains “Because a lot of music is
going straight to itunes, we thought we would pay
special attention to both the cover and the back
cover and fill the inside of the CD booklet with
tons of fun shots from this specialized photo
shoot. As we all know, very soon there will no
longer be an actual CD to have a cool booklet for.
Everything will go straight from the studio to
your ipod, so we thought we would really go all
out on this one”
(….About the
tour and the new show)
The new show for
the Appointment with DeathTour is

Lizzy Borden (Master of Disguise review by
Rock Heavy Load)
Metal Blade’s 25th birthday special edition
Recently, this website reported the 1989 classic “Master of Disguise”
would be re-released in a special edition to celebrate Metal Blade’s
anniversary. To each his own, of all the albums already slated to be
re-released, LIZZY BORDEN’s was the one I was waiting for the most,
main reason being I was too young to appreciate it back in 1989, but
also because Carlos is quite persuasive in instructing me in the ways
of good old heavy-metal.
